The journey of reconnecting with my culture took a big step forward when I started my beadwork. Whether it was on the loom or embroidery, the hypnotic repetition of beading always brings me back to a calm center. Some say it’s tedious but the reward is indescribable.
The multi-media piece pictured above began with a seemingly simple question of ‘Why I don’t cut my hair?’ Which turned out to have a complicated answer saturated with grief, trauma and erasure. The first edition of this piece became a screen print and has now evolved to reflect the expansion of my skills and experiences.
